The 4th International Jazz Composers’ Symposium

Co-sponsored by the University of Northern Colorado and the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC). The Symposium is designed as a forum to bring jazz composers of all ages and nationalities together for an informal exchange of ideas, information, and inspiration. This year’s Symposium will include noted master artists Ron Miles, Bill Frisell, Christine Jensen, Vince Mendoza, Darcy James Argue, & Chris Potter among others, in a series of concerts, lectures, master classes, panel discussions, research presentations, and industry sessions.

Workshop Kathrin-Preis / Kathrin Lemke Scholarship for Young Jazz Improvisers 2019

Der erste Kathrin-Preis-Gewinner ist der Perkussionist Joss Turnbull. Der Preis ist nach der 2016 im Alter von nur 44 Jahren verstorbenen Berliner Jazz-Saxofonistin Kathrin Lemke benannt, die am 27.9.2018 47 Jahre alt geworden wäre. Gemeinsam mit Lemkes Mutter, dem Internetportal jazzpages.de und JAZZTHETIK stiftet das Jazzinstitut Darmstadt die Auszeichnung, die künftig alle zwei Jahre in Form einer vollfinanzierten, einwöchigen Werkstattphase in Darmstadt gewährt wird. Den Abschluss bildet die offizielle Verleihung während des Preisträgerkonzerts am 24.5.2019 in Darmstadt.
